Goshen College invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of ASL and Sign Language Interpreting to teach American Sign Language (ASL) and Interpreting courses beginning in August 2023.
Candidates with one or more of the following specialties preferred: Teaching ASL, Sign Language Interpreting, Deaf Culture.
Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the area of ASL courses and Sign Language Interpreting courses as well as managing the Deaf Studies program. The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate strengths in Deaf culture and a variety of interpreting settings such as: medical interpreting, educational interpreting, community interpreting, performance interpreting.
In addition to teaching, the position includes advising and mentoring an increasingly diverse student body and supporting departmental co-curriculars, such as ASL Club and Senior Interpreting Internship.
The department offers the following majors and minors: Sign Language Interpreting major, Deaf Studies major, Deaf Studies minor, as well as the Transition to Interpreting adult education program. All members of the department have opportunities to develop courses within their expertise.
Goshen College is a teaching college with a load of 24 credits each year, and all teaching faculty serve on institution-wide committees and assist with advising, as well as recruiting prospective students. Candidates must be interested in working closely with students and fellow faculty members as part of a small, vibrant campus and community.
- Masters degree required
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college/university level
- Commitment to working with diverse populations

- Terminal degree: PhD or EdD
- National Interpreting Certification or ASLTA certification
- Two or more years of community interpreting
- Experience teaching diverse college students
- Scholarly publications or professional presentations
