Assistant or Associate Professor of Physics (tenure-track)
Goshen College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Physics with a preference for an experimentalist to begin July 1, 2023.
Primary teaching responsibilities would include General Physics, Engineering Statics, Electronics, and other upper level classes related to your professional interests. Physics faculty must also teach one or more general education courses, for example, Astronomy or Climate Change. Faculty members are expected to develop a research program suitable for undergraduate involvement.
We seek a colleague with exceptional teaching skills and a commitment to mentoring students via an undergraduate research program. Our alumni consistently gain admittance into Ph.D. and post graduate programs. Goshen College ranks second in Indiana in the percent of alumni who go on to earn a PhD. Campus facilities include an optics lab, an acoustics lab, lab for electronics, and machine and 3-d printing shop, along with teaching labs. Space for a research program and some startup funds are available.
Goshen College faculty are eligible to apply to teach in our nationally ranked study abroad program, SST, which includes semesters in Ecuador, Tanzania, China, Indonesia, and Senegal. Interest in participating in this program would be an advantage.
The Physics department offers bachelor of arts degrees in Physics and in Engineering Physics. All teaching faculty serve on institution-wide committees and assist with advising, as well as recruiting prospective students. The successful candidate must be ready to contribute to our strong tradition of excellence in research and publication as well as teaching. Candidates must be interested in working closely with students and fellow faculty members as a part of a small, vibrant campus and community.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Physics or Engineering preferred; at least a Master’s degree is required. College level teaching experience is preferred; interest in teaching in a small, liberal arts college and strong interest in undergraduate research is required; we seek a colleague who is committed to the core values and mission of Goshen College.
