Coordinator for Residential Collegiate Programs and Environmental Educator

Goshen College seeks a Coordinator for Residential Collegiate Programs and Environmental Educator to support its Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center’s mission by:  a) serving as residential director for the students in residential undergraduate programs; b) providing leadership and support to the undergraduate learning experiences; c) assisting in recruitment for collegiate programs offered at Merry Lea; and d) teaching in the Pre-K – 12 environmental education programs.

This is a temporary position that will run through the end of December, 2022.

Responsibilities related to students-in-residence programs (in consultation with appropriate SEED faculty and program directors):

  4. Recruiting for Merry Lea Collegiate Programs

Education and Experience:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or related field
  • Experience in outdoor settings and outdoor activities
  • Experience in supervising student living
  • Work or educational experience that demonstrates responsibility, self-direction, organization, and flexibility

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • First Aid certification required, Wilderness First Aid or First Responder preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Skills & Competencies

Required:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Responsible, resourceful, and flexible
  • Logistically savvy
  • Organized
  • Strong people skills and sense of empathy

Preferred:

  • Experience with Excel, Facebook, wiki sites, and database use
  • Canoeing, boating, and camping skills
  • Cooking skills
  • Experience with mini-bus driving and driving with a trailer

Work Environment/Environmental Condition:

The location of this position is at Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center, which is 28 miles southeast of Goshen. Merry Lea is comprised of 1,189 acres of diverse ecosystems and is managed as a preserve. There are multiple program sites and facilities including classroom and office space.

Inside environmental conditions for a portion of the time, but does include significant work outside where there may be exposure to inclement weather, exposure to pollen and spores, venomous snakes, ticks, biting insects and other elements that are a part of an intentionally natural environment.
