Transfer Advisor

Goshen College seeks a full-time Transfer Advisor to serve as an enrollment and advising specialist for students transferring into Goshen College’s traditional undergraduate program. This position is responsible for carrying out key portions of recruiting, pre-advising and supporting prospective transfer students to ensure their successful transfer through their first semester at Goshen College.

A critical component of the Advisor’s work will be to facilitate successful transfer pathways for graduates of local community colleges to Goshen. This includes assisting current community college students with course selection and preparation for transfer, and helping individual students explore degrees offered by Goshen College.  The Advisor will also connect transfer students with appropriate financial aid resources, student support services and faculty advisors as needed. The successful candidate helps transfer students recognize Goshen College as a destination of choice for continuing their education.

This is a full-time, salary exempt position that pays $36,280 annually and includes full benefits.

Special Requirements

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Regular travel to meet with students on the Ivy Tech Community College campuses in South Bend and Elkhart, which may include some evening work hours to accommodate student schedules.
  • Travel required related to student recruitment events, professional meetings and relevant college business. Travel could include overnight and/or extended stay.
  • Evening/night/weekend work required in representing Goshen College at recruitment events. Also required in order to contact students during time frames that are more suitable to their schedules.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Warm, positive personality with eagerness to meet and help people. Proven ability to relate and collaborate with a wide cross-section of campus administrators, employees, alumni, and students. People need to like you and trust you.
  • Self-motivated. Solutions oriented. Establishes priorities and effectively implements and follows through.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and intermediate computer literacy.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from prospective students, the campus community, or external constituencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years prior experience in higher education, preferably in the area of enrollment or advising
  • Strong familiarity with Goshen College and/or Ivy Tech programs
  • Prior experience working with community college students
  • Experience with academic advising and understanding how academic degrees align with career aspirations
  • An understanding of the undergraduate experience and academic programs
  • Ability to read transcripts and understand course equivalencies.
