Assistant or Associate Professor of Nursing

Goshen College invites applications for a part-time appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor of Nursing in the undergraduate program with expertise in Psychiatric/ Mental Health, starting July 2022.

Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the area of Psychiatric/ Mental Health. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in Psychiatric/Mental health,  a willingness to teach in the classroom, as well as, in the clinical setting.  In addition to teaching, the position includes supporting and attending departmental meetings and engaging in professional development activities. The successful candidate would teach approximately two courses in the fall and two courses in the spring semester.

The nursing department has four programs of study: basic baccalaureate, RN to BSN degree completion, family nurse practitioner at the master’s level, and the doctor of nursing practice.

The department of nursing, a CCNE accredited institution, has provided baccalaureate nursing education for over sixty years.  The department of nursing is highly regarded for preparing excellent, culturally sensitive, clinically skillful nurses well-grounded in theory and able to think critically.

Goshen College is a teaching college and all full-time teaching faculty serve on institution-wide committees to assist with advising, as well as recruiting prospective students. Candidates must be interested in working closely with students and fellow faculty members as part of a small, vibrant campus and community.

Physical Demands: Essential Functions:

  • Prepare course syllabi for assigned courses in collaboration with department chair and program director
  • Teach assigned courses with appropriate active and engaged learning practices
  • Provide supervision in the clinical setting with quality and safety practices
  • Participate in department, school and college meetings
  • Pursue appropriate professional development opportunities, including scholarly activities
  • Complete other assigned duties

Supervisory Responsibility: 

  • Students in assigned courses and clinical settings

Education and Experience: 

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in psychiatric/mental health- Master’s degree in nursing; however, a bachelor’s degree would be considered when paired with significant professional experience in psychiatric/mental health and a commitment to begin a Master’s degree after hire
  • Demonstration of excellence in clinical practice

Preferred preparation

  • Doctorate in nursing or doctoral candidate
  • Experience in psychiatric nursing
  • Experience teaching diverse college students
