Director of Human Resources

Goshen College seeks applicants for a full-time Director of Human Resources.

By aligning the employee life cycle to the college’s mission, strategy and five core values, the Director of Human Resources will help shape institutional practices that make Goshen College a great place to work.

The Director of Human Resources partners with administration, faculty, and staff to implement the mission of the college and focuses on developing collaborative relationships as a trusted advisor and valued administrative partner. The Director will provide guidance and expertise in the day-to-day operations related to all areas of human resources including the employee lifecycle, strategic planning, employee relations, and program development, as well as legal compliance, staffing management, HR forecasting, compensation, and benefits. In support of institutional strategic directions, this role will enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives by implementing best practices in recruiting and retaining employees, creating supportive environments and implementing training programs for faculty, staff and administrators.  The Director will be expected to interact on strategic matters with the president and vice presidents, and to interact in authentic and supportive ways with employees at all levels of the institution, including student employees.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s in Human Resource Administration, Business, Organizational Development or related field preferred.
  • At least five years experience in a Human Resources leadership position required; e.g. HR Manager.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office suite, Google Docs, and relevant HR systems software.
  • Possess and exercise exceptional judgment and the ability to influence and persuade.
  • Be a self-starter and capable of working independently.
  • Be willing to give attention to detail, strive for accuracy and complete tasks.
  • Strong team leader with an ability to empower others and work in a collegial culture.
  • Ability to resolve complex employee relations matters.
  • Possess excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Communicate in a clear and concise fashion with a wide variety of people.

Preferred 

  • PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Prior Human Resource Management experience, ideally in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with Jenzabar Human Resources and ADP software.
