Executive Director of Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center

Goshen College invites nominations and applications for the full-time position of Executive Director of Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center. The Executive Director guides the development of educational and public programming, takes leadership for collaborative strategic planning, budget preparation, long-range financial planning, and master planning.  The Executive Director leads the advancement work for Merry Lea by pursuing diverse funding opportunities. The Executive Director supervises directors of major program areas, the administrative assistant, and the communications manager.  The Executive Director is Merry Lea’s representative in campus affairs, community relations, and promotion of the center and its programs. The Executive Director serves as an advocate for Merry Lea’s mission within the campus community, the faith community, and nationally. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Trustees and is supervised by Goshen College’s Vice President of Academic Affairs.

The annual salary range for this position is $73,650 to $80,000.



Minimum of Master’s degree in a field related to Environmental Education; minimum of five years’ experience as an executive director in a non-profit setting.

A high level of written and oral communication skills; organizational skills; computer skills (word processing, database management, spreadsheets); ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people, including faculty, staff, visitors, donors and administrators; record of successful management of a non-profit organization; familiarity with recent and emerging trends in environmental education.


Doctoral degree and interest in teaching undergraduate or graduate students preferred. Previous experience in an educational setting; with a record of successful fund-raising.
