Merry Lea Building Manager and Grounds Assistant

Goshen College has an opening for a full-time Building Manager & Grounds Assistant at its Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center, located thirty miles southeast of Goshen, near Wolf Lake, IN.  Will be primarily responsible to provide for the repair/maintenance/minor renovations, regular light custodial work and periodic heavy custodial work of Merry Lea’s buildings, including building structures, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems. Will work with vendors and arrange for contractors, when needed. Will provide support in the planning and oversight of major construction projects. Will do the seasonal mowing of the surrounding lawns and assist in snow plowing. Involves the operation of hand and power construction tools, commercial lawn mowers, floor cleaning machines, pickup truck-mounted plows and trailers. May periodically supervise volunteers related to building maintenance (i.e. painting). The work schedule will be primarily during the day, Monday through Friday, with some periodic evening hours. Weekend hours may occur very infrequently.

This position pays between $15.00 and $17.00 per hour, depending on years of experience and training, and is eligible for full benefits.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION: 

Minimum of high school diploma/GED required: with building trades training preferred. Valid driver’s license.

EXPERIENCE:

Five or more years of related work experience in building maintenance and construction responsibilities. Experience with operating commercial riding mowers, truck-mounted snowplows and utility tractors preferred. Basic computer skills are required to enter timecards, take required safety training, and read and answer e-mail on-line. Working knowledge of computer word processing and database programs helpful. Must have the ability to lift 25 lbs. regularly and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
