Mainstages

Outside of the classroom, the theater department focuses its energies on the production of one full-length mainstage show each semester. Mainstages expose students to the many facets of theater production, providing them with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience working on shows both on stage and behind the scenes, as student designers, technicians and stage crew are utilized in addition to student actors. Mainstages are directed alternately by department faculty and guest artists, exposing students to a variety of styles and techniques throughout their study and participation in the theater department.

One Acts

The theater department produces a collection of one act plays each semester in addition to the mainstage. Usually student-directed pieces, one acts provide a more formal opportunity to practice directing skills and techniques than simply within the classroom, in addition to offering beginning actors the chance to be cast in significant roles.

Senior Recitals

All theater majors are required to produce a senior recital as the culmination of their studies in the theater department. Students are responsible for managing all production aspects for their senior recital, often working with other students to fill production roles. A recital may take many different forms, for example the production of an original piece (KOLO), a selection of one acts (for example, Discovery Channels), or a deeper involvement in a Mainstage production (for example, Hillary Knox’s stage management and other duties in HONK!).
