What drew you to want to teach at GC?
The mission statement of Goshen College, that of being a global citizen. I was also drawn to the size of school, which allows for more one-on-one time instructing students.
What do you love most about teaching GC students?
I enjoy seeing how involved our students are across multiple disciplines and the opportunities available to them.
What excites you about theater?
Theater has been a passion of mine for many years, allowing us to share stories from many different cultures and periods of history. I also enjoy creating a new world onstage for each production, which allows me to grow as an artist and helps our students develop many different sets of skills.
What do you enjoy doing outside of your academic work?
I enjoy cycling, reading, attending films and live theater, and spending time with family and friends. I am also a fan of several sports including Rugby Union, football and baseball.
How does the college’s vision (international, intercultural, interdisciplinary and integrative) connect or shape your teaching and work?
Producing theater is an instant connection to a global community of artists and performers. Each of our students must gain skills in communication, crafts and literary analysis; in researching for a design or onstage role, our students research many viewpoints and cultures.
How do you strive to make peace through your work and life?
By presenting works that challenge and educate our audiences across various viewpoints and backgrounds. In my everyday life I strive to be a better follower of Christ and enjoy meeting individuals from walks of life different than my own.
Is there anything else you would like prospective students to know about you?
I enjoy passing on new skills to any student, be it their first time picking up a paint brush or hammer, or those who have been taking part in theater for a long time. I strive to make the work environment fun but also to teach about a great profession and lifestyle.
