Increased enrollment!

The Kinesiology Department enrollment has increased, with a total of forty-two majors as of January 2015. This is nearly double the number of students in the department from the past several years. This heightened interest is partly due to the addition of the new exercise science major, which was added two years ago. This new area of emphasis is a wonderful complement to the more traditional programs including the physical education major, teacher licensure track, sport management minor and the coaching endorsement.

The exercise science major is a rigorous program designed for people who want to study anatomy, physiology and mechanics in the context of exercise and wellness. There is a fitness leadership option for students interested in personal training where they design workout programs for clients and help them workout. This program also prepares the undergraduate for a strength and conditioning career working with athletic teams. Successful completers of this program are prepared for graduate school, specifically in wellness, exercise physiology, biomechanics, athletic training or other related areas.

The physical education major continues to attract students interested in teaching (K-12 grade PE and Health), athletics, sport and sport management. The popular sport management minor focuses on the business side of sport, and requires business classes along with sport management classes to prepare students for managing sport and fitness facilities or athletic events, intramural and athletic administration, sport marketing and skills important for careers in other sport-related agencies.
