Alum returns to Cambodia

Sarah Toews

Sarah Toews, social work ’14, spent two months in early 2015 volunteering in Cambodia.  Sarah was on SST in Cambodia several years earlier, and began planning for her return almost as soon as she graduated.  While in Cambodia, she worked for a non-governmental organization that helps young women avoid or escape exploitation.  Recently Sarah noted that while she wasn’t a “huge fan of evaluation when we talked about it in class, I have been shown how important it is.”  Since the assessment/follow up tools/process that the staff is supposed to use are not well-developed, “it is hard to know how successful the program is… what its impact has been so far.”  She reports having an entirely new appreciation of how important evaluation is.
