Peace, Justice and Conflict Studies

Goshen College recently introduced a new Informatics cognate for students wanting to apply computer technology to the needs of nonprofit organizations and church agencies. If  you would like to use computers to work for justice, create peace, and resolve conflicts this is the major for you. This cognate will be available starting in the Fall of 2012

Church agencies and peace and justice organizations need people with computer skills to serve in their organizations. In the headquarters of these organizations computers are used for tracking activities of the organizations, accounting, communication with supporters and fundraising. In the field computers are used to track activities of staff and volunteers, track spending and communicating with headquarters.  While organizations want staff members that understand their mission, they often need staff that can manage databases, do accounting, analyze mission effectiveness, create websites, and develop mobile apps. Those activities happen on computers. Informatics majors with a PJCS with an Informatics cognate will both understand the mission and how to use computer technology. This will make them more valuable as employees in church agencies and mission organizations than someone with just a PJCS major or training in informatics alone.
