Fish Shocking on the Elkhart River

Fish Shocking on the Elkhart River

Ecology students were treated to a first-hand look at the fish biodiversity in the Elkhart River, thanks to the willingness of Daragh Deegan, Elkhart City Aquatic Biologist.  Deegan (GC alumnus) provided electroshocking training for GC students during a recent lab exercise in the General Ecology class.  The data will be used to quantify a general biotic health index (Index of Biotic Integrity) for a section of the Elkhart River, using fish biodiversity and abundance.
