Always raise with the right hand at about the 5 o:clock position. Never hold your hand at the 2 or 3 o:clock position.

  • Note the rings on the clay here to see if your motion is at the right speed.
  • If your rings are farther apart, you are moving up too fast.
  • If your clay tears off, you may be moving to slowly or forgetting to move.
  • As you move up, gradually change all the pressure to outside only to keep the top as small as possible. 
  • This produces a vertical cone shaped cylinder.
