Bartel checking a hot glaze fired bowl from his kiln
    June 23, 1998
This is work being prepared for One-Person-Show in the Goshen College Art Gallery, October, 1998.  This bowl  was painted with colored slips before the clay was dry. After bisque firing it was glazed with one glaze over the fish.  This glaze was waxed over the fish areas. A dark glaze was added to the unwaxed areas.  It was glaze fired to cone 10 over 2,300 degrees to melt the glaze and vitrify the stoneware.

A small porcelain piece with a copper red glaze is in the bottom foreground.  On the shelf under the bowl is a large stoneware mirror frame and a strawberry pie plate.  Also in this kiln was a pedestal sink and a set of dinnerware.
