Should we care for things or for people? A short essay below. |
To create and/or to
use well-crafted beautiful things is to care. Yes, it means we care
for things. Things are important props on the stage of life and relationships.
To care for people and not to care about things seems wrong. The everyday items of living together reflect the way we feel about each other. The art object, the well-crafted object, the cared-for object; all help us express our feelings of care for others. If children grow up surrounded by crush proof, disposable, and damage proof stuff; can we expect them to learn lessons of care and respect for beauty, quality, and each other? mb |
