How You Can HelpInvest in our greatest treasure - families. Charitable gifts from individuals, business, churches, foundations, and service clubs provide a major portion of the resources available to Family Services. Gifts, Memorials, Endowments, and Estate Giving are tax deductible. Gifts may be made in honor or in memory of a loved one. "Keep What You Have. . . and Give More"According to the Newtithing Group, individual annual charitable giving could triple in this countryfrom $110 billion to $350 billionwithout diminishing net worth. In addition, a report by two Boston College researchers quadruplesfrom $10 trillion to at least $41 trillionthe long-held estimates on the amount of wealth that older Americans will leave in their estates in the next 50 years. (The Washington Post, November 2, 1999) Giving appreciated stock is one of multiple ways to benefit both private charities and the donor. This great source of investment can benefit the recipient as well as give the donor a significant tax write-off. With the accumulation of wealth at an all-time high in this country and in the history of the world, I would appeal to your conscience to share responsibly with your "neighbor" who is in need, rather than to consume more for yourself. To whom much is given, much shall be required. Family Services serves many such "neighbors." Given a second chance, they usually respond to the opportunity and climb over the obstacles. Often these neighbors are children and their mothers who are frequently poor and abused. Some have made mistakes, but are trying to do the right thing.
