Yes, Thunderbird will still function, both at home and on campus. While we strongly suggest switching to Zimbra Mail (especially for home use), Thunderbird will still be supported.
Will my PDA/Smartphone/Blackberry work with Zimbra?
Due to rapidly changing technology, we cannot give a definitive list of makes and models of devices we support; however, in general ITS will support any device running Windows Mobile 6 or higher, Palm OS 5 or higher, and iPod Touches/iPhones.
Please note that all mobile devices must have an internet connection and that ITS is not responsible for any fees incurred due to data usage.
Serial Palm devices (PDA's that sync through a cable) and Blackberrys are NOT capable of syncing with your email and calendar on this new system, and are not supported by ITS.
Anyone who needs help
with setup will need to make an appointment with ITS. Call the Help
Desk at ext. 7700. Support for compatible mobile devices is limited to ensuring
that the compatible device synch with Zimbra.
We strongly recommend using Zimbra Mail as your home email program, but Thunderbird will still function if you already have it set up.
Please note that no one should still be using Eudora at home. If you are, please contact ITS immediately for instructions on how to switch to Zimbra Mail.
Will all my mail get transferred? What about my folders and address book?
All mail and folders for all users will be available in Zimbra mail. When the transfer is made, if you do notice an issue, such as missing folders, please contact ITS right away to report the problem.
If you are using your address book in Roundcube, after the move to Zimbra you will receive an email containing this link. Clicking on this link will allow you to download a copy of your address book saved in a .csv file. You will then need to import this file in to Zimbra. Instructions for importing address books to Zimbra can be found on the Zimbra Mail Help page.
If you are using an address book in Thunderbird and wish to also have it available in Zimbra, you will need to export your address book from Thunderbird and import it into Zimbra. Instructions for exporting address books from Thunderbird can be found on the Thunderbird Help page. Instructions for importing address books to Zimbra can be found on the Zimbra Mail Help page.
Please Note* Do not save your exported address book file as a LDIF file which comes up as the default. Click on the drop down menu and change it to comma separated.
Please Note* group addresses do not transfer. They will need to be re-created.
All calendar data dating back to January 1, 2008 will be transferred to Zimbra. If you need data further back than that, please contact ITS.
Tasks will NOT be transferred from Oracle to Zimbra. If you are using the Tasks feature in Oracle, print out your task list and manually re-entering it in Zimbra. This can be done anytime after Zimbra goes live (July 4), but MUST be done before Oracle is disconnected (10:00 p.m. July 10).
Don't panic! There is a glitch in the
current version of Zimbra that causes events in the calendar to
sometimes disappear, not show up when added, or not show changes when
edited. To resolve this, simply hit the "Refresh" button in your
browser, or F5. If that doe not resolve the issue, close your browser
all the way, then open it again and log back into Zimbra. This glitch
will be resolved in the next version of Zimbra.
