Scholarships

The Theater Department recognizes outstanding students by awarding more than $50,000 in scholarships every year. Through generous endowments the department is able to offer scholarships to dozens of students, with annual awards ranging from $500 to $5,000. In 2002, the department introduced the Gorsline Excellence Awards, inviting talented high school seniors to compete for $4,000 scholarships in journalism, theater, and video/film/audio.

Gorsline scholarship – First-year theater majors, communication majors and transfer students with strong academic performance and theater experience may be eligible to receive this scholarship. The amount ranges from $1,000 to $2,000.

Gorsline Excellence Award in Theater: a $4,000 award given to a high school senior for acting achievement. Audition entries are accepted for acting and musical theater performance and are judged by a panel of department members and professional theater artists. The scholarship is renewable for four years.

Gorsline Excellence Award in Video/Film/Audio: a $4,000 award given to a high school student for creative production or journalistic achievement. Entries are accepted for documentary, fictional or creative production works and are judged by a panel of department members and professional journalists. The scholarship is renewable for four years.

Massanari Theater Scholarship – This scholarship is given each year to selected juniors and seniors interested in theater. Between two and four students showing productivity and commitment are chosen for this need-based scholarship. The amount given ranges from $700 to $1,000.

Geigley Scholarship: awards ranging from $500 to $1,500 for students who excel in broadcast communication or theater.

In order to retain these scholarships, a student must maintain a 3.0GPA.
