Major in Theater

Students majoring in theater must complete 41 hours of theater, communication and related courses. All theater majors, in consultation with a faculty adviser, develop a plan of study that includes one of the following areas of concentration:

 Basic requirements for the major include these courses:

  • COMM 202, Oral Communication taken for three credit hours [part of General Education]
  • COMM 204, Expository Writing: 3 credit hours
  • THEA 225, Introduction to Theater: 3 credit hours
  • COMM 240, Communication Research: 3 credit hours
  • THEA 235, The Power of Story: 3 credit hours
  • THEA 387, The History of Theater: 3 credit hours
  • THEA 200, Theater Practice (technical theater, acting or stage management): 3 credit hours
  • THEA 409, Internship*: 3 credit hours
  • THEA 410, Senior Seminar: 3 credit hours
  • Area of concentration*: 18 credit hours (minimum 9 upper-level)

*The THEA 409/Internship should be in the student’s area of concentration.

A transfer student should have a minimum of nine hours of theater courses at Goshen College.

A senior recital and a portfolio or its equivalent is required for graduation.
