students with Afewerk TekleOur SST group was very fortunate to visit the residence and studio of the Artist Afewerk Tekle. The Hon. Maitre Artiste World Laureate is Ethiopia's leading artist, and the first winner of the Haile Selassie Prize for Fine Arts. Afewerk has been engaged in many challenging works, such as the mural of St. Paul's Hospital, and a large "Last Judgment", now in the Adigrat Cathedral in Tigri. The titles for some of his other paintings, which give a flavor of his work, include "Backbones of African Civilization", "African Movement", "African Atmosphere", and "African Unity".
