Settling in...
Students arrived Wednesday, tired but excited. They spent the first night together in a guesthouse in the heart of the Ciudad Colonial, the city center that dates from the time of Christopher Columbus.
Thursday
was spent in the initial orientation, with a break for lunch at the
Plaza Toledo. By four thirty p.m. we were leaving for UNPHU to meet
the families. Friday the students had a training in how to navigate
by carro publico (cars that ply bus-like routes) and corredores
(big OMSA buses). Then they walked to find Casa Goshen. We had a wonderful
afternoon drinking mango juice done from the mango tree at Casa Goshen
and talking about possibilities for service for the latter part of their
stay.
Saturday
was time for the Guayacanes beach, not without stopping at Los Tres
Ojos, a beautiful and interesting underground pools of sea water
in a big cave close to the ocean.
