Arriving
Students
arrived Thursday, staying in a guesthouse. Orientation sessions began
on Friday morning included Ellen Ducy de Perez of UNPHU and Raymond
Blais (at left) of ENTRENA. In the afternoon, more GC orientation from
Galen and Ruth.
Ellen kindly allowed us to post some of the facts she shared about
the Dominican Republic-- "Dominican
Republic Questions and Answers".
Families
At
4:30, 21 of us plus suitcases, piled Dominican style into a compact
car, an SUV and a mini van and headed to UNPHU
(Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña) to meet students'
host families, with whom they'll be living for the next six or so weeks.
Students will spend the weekend with their families and come together on Monday morning at ENTRENA for language evaluations in the morning and public transportation system training in the afternoon. On Tuesday morning the students will begin the normal routine of morning language study (at ENTRENA) and lectures at UNPHU in the afternoons.
