Join Bev Lapp and Dale Klassen and 23 college students as they
meet the Dominican Republic this summer (1999) on Goshen College's
SST program.
The Study Service Term (SST) is the highlight of college
for many students at Goshen College.
Goshen believes that becoming familiar with a culture significantly
different from that of the United States is a crucial part of a
liberal arts education, and requires a semester of International
Education for graduation.
Most students satisfy the International Education requirement by
spending a semester on SST in a foreign country. Goshen faculty
leaders living on location organize language study, cultural input,
and service opportunities for a group of about 20 students.
Leaders of the SST program in 1999 in the Dominican Republic
are Beverly Lapp, assistant professor of music, and her husband
Dale Klassen.
Beverly is a Goshen College graduate and first experienced SST
as a student in Costa Rica. Dale is a Bethel College (Kansas) graduate
and has traveled with Bethel's programs across Central America.
This is their first time living in the Dominican Republic, and their
first time leading SST.
Bev and Dale have been in Santo Domingo since December 8, 1998.
They led their first unit of 20 students from January to March.
Their current group arrived on May 6 and will stay until early August.
Come back to this site again! We hope to share our reflections
in a kind of group web journal about one term of SST in the Dominican
Republic.
