on the roof at Fond Parisiene We crossed to Haiti and spent a night in Fond Parisienne. Pastor Matthew spoke to us about conditions in Fond Parisienne, and his family cooked meals for us.

Elisabeth and CharlotteAt Port au Prince we conversed with Father Roger Desir, translator of the Bible into Creole, MCC development workers, and others.

  • Former MCC'er Carla Bluntschli (here with Kirsten, our bus driver Carlos, and Ben) made many contacts for us in Haiti, where she's lived for 17 years.

Obelisc on the MaleconBack in the Dominican Republic, we made a trip to Salcedo, the region where the three Mirabal sisters (later assasinated by Trujillo) grew up.

Monica, Kathy, BenjaminAfter Salcedo, we moved on to Jarabacoa, and had a chance to visit an organic farm of the Asociación Agrícola de los Dajao (ASADA).

That afternoon, we walked to the Baiguate Falls (a waterfall is a salto, a water "jump" in Spanish), and got rained on as we walked back.
