First week
We
held orientation at the William
Carey Baptist center. Unlike other SST units, where students are staying
with local host families, in Havana the students are sleeping at the
center, as well studying Spanish, listening to lectures, and eating
many meals together at the center. Students will become very
familiar with the center! It's also located in the heart of Havana,
a short distance from much of what the city has to offer. In the photo,
Maria, David, and others are seen in the lunchroom.

Here
are Tom, Robin, and Cristian in front of a government building in downtown
Havana adorned with the face of Che Guevara. One excursion in the last
few days was to see a very large model of the city of Havana--La
Maqueta.

We
celebrated Tim and Elise' birthdays so far. According to Cuban tradition,
they must cut the first slice of cake.
