Children's programs

Water babies:

Child must be at least six months old and parents are in the water with the child during the class. This class is for parents wanting to introduce their child to the water at an early age and most of the class time is spent doing activities that help the child adjust to the water. Some safety skills are taught to parents on correct ways of taking their child swimming and introductory skills (such as floating and gliding) taught to the child. This class is scheduled when there is enough interest.

Preschool:

Age limit: three-five years. Parents do NOT join children in water. Introductory class for preschool age children. Main objective of this class is to help child adjust to being in water and teach basic floating and gliding skills.

Learn to swim program

Taught by certified Red Cross water safety instructors, Goshen community and campus community members are welcome to join this flexible program with small class sizes and reasonable rates. Private lessons are also available for your convenience. Swimming lessons are offered during the fall, winter and spring. Private lessons are available by contacting Trish Yoder at 535-7475.

Level 1 & 2: Water exploration and primary skills that teach water adjustment, beginning safety and beginning locomotion.

Level 3 & 4: Stroke readiness and development builds on aquatic locomotion by introducing elementary backstroke and kicks used in sidestroke and breaststroke.

Level 5 & 6: Stroke refinement, proficiency and advanced skills are taught. In these classes, all previously taught strokes are refined; it teaches breathing and arms of sidestroke and breaststroke and introduces butterfly.

Private lesson cost:
$12/lesson (four lesson minimum)


Small group private lessons

Small groups may also be formed for private lessons. This allows children to continue social skills by attending a small class and it allows parents to come at their convenience.

Small group costs:
Group of two: $8/child
Group of three: $7/child
Group of four: $6/child
