Publishing pages ... from an Apple computer
If you have a Macintosh computer, you can open your home account on www as a file share, such that it appears as a desktop folder. All you have to do to publish a page is to 'save' it in the right location in that folder. Here are step by step instructions.
OS-X Macs
If you just want to connect to your mypages folder... it's already available to you via the GCFile ("M: drive for PC users) network share on your desktop. Look under "Web Pages/mypages".
If you need access to /deptpages...
You may have to first eject (disconnect) your GCFile share, Then...
First, In the "Finder" select "Connect to Server..." from the "Go" menu, or just hit Apple-K.
Second, type the network address of our webserver like this: "smb://www.goshen.edu"
That's it!
Of course the SMB protocol does not know anything about resource forks, so you MUST include an extension on filenames when you save...for example a webpage file name might end in ".html". Many OS-X apps will now do this for you.
OS-9 Macs
First, go to the Chooser and click Appleshare. In the Appletalk zone box select gczone, then select www from the list of available servers and click OK.

If for some reason www doesn't show up, click "Server IP Address" and type in www.goshen.edu. (If that absolutely doesn't work, you can also try as a last resort '199.8.232.90').
Second, you'll be presented with a dialogue which allows you to connect as a registered user. Type your username (should be all lower case!) and password, and click OK.

Note that appletalk will transmit only the first 8 characters of your password, so if your (e-mail) password is longer than 8 characters you'll have to choose a shorter password (go to gc-online) before you can connect.
Third, You'll have a chance to say whether the the share should be renewed each time the computer starts up. Don't check this box on a laboratory Mac, but you may wish to on your personal workstation. A desktop link to your www folder should appear.
