What is HTML? The World Wide Web (or WWW) is a collection of hypertext documents (or files) on computers hooked up to the Internet. These documents are written in HTML--HyperText Markup Language.

You can create and view HTML documents on your desktop computer without any access to a web server. You can use a simple text editor (like notepad or SimpleText) to create an HTML document. Text in angled brackets is 'markup code' which can turn formatting off and on, so that creating a line in your text editor like this

a <B>bold</B> turn of phrase..
would display like this when viewed with a browser:
a bold turn of phrase..

On the next page, find out how to create and view a simple page using Netscape Communicator.
