Goshen College

This is an eight-week summer research program available to Goshen students of all majors. The Maple Scholar receives a stipend of $2500 and room expenses. The majority of the Scholar's time is spent working with an individual faculty member on a topic of current research.

Unity among the Scholars is promoted through a weekly colloquium in which Scholars discuss their work, field trips, and a final poster session and banquet. Maple Scholars present their work at conferences such as the National Conference on Undergraduate Research.

The Maple Scholars program began in the sciences, but is expanding to include all of the liberal arts. In form and stipend it is comparable to National Science Foundation funded REU programs at other institutions. Selection of Scholars is competitive. In 1999 there were 9 Scholars. Applications are available in November.
