Sports management

The expanding field of sports management has created job opportunities in fitness clubs, YMCAs, camps, parks and retail businesses.

A physical education major with a sports management concentration prepares students for those positions and others. Sports management students take accounting, management and marketing courses, including psychology, computer science, nutrition or small business concepts, along with their physical education classes. Students are not certifiable to teach with a sports management major, although extra course work fulfills the requirements. Most importantly, students have the opportunity to gain professional experience during their senior year. For some students, a practicum in camps, park departments, businesses or industries has led to a permanent job after graduation.
