Professor advising studentBuilding on the foundation parents and communities have established, Goshen College encourages perseverance in courses of study and close relationships with excellent professors, encouraging students to flourish and mature spiritually, academically and socially. Should your son or daughter choose to go to graduate school for further study after GC, you can be confident that he or she has been well prepared. How you can be helpful if graduate school is in your student’s future.

- Goshen graduates are accepted into medical school at twice the national average.
- GC ranks in the top sixth of U.S. liberal arts colleges for graduates who hold Ph.D.s.
- Goshen graduates are readily accepted into graduate programs around the country, including Notre Dame, Penn State and Harvard.
- Nursing, social work and elementary education graduates regularly score higher than average on state exams.
- Accounting majors successfully complete the CPA exams at a rate three times the national average.
- The GC Class of 2001 had 10 percent of its graduates apply for grad or post-baccalaureate certificate programs. 100 percent were accepted.

How can you as parents be helpful to your student if graduate school is in their future?

- Encourage internships after the second or third year.
- Educate yourself by linking to the Career Services Web site for a calendar of events such as seminars and workshops, service-learning opportunities, and graduate school options.
- Encourage students to work closely with their academic advisers regarding graduate school counseling and timing of tests such as the M-CAT, LSAT, etc.
- Recommend utilization of the Career Services Department beginning in the first or second year of college. Students can learn to build their resumes and interview skills.
