<p>Pianist and Goshen native Mary Rose (Jordan) Norell will present a piano recital with husband and pianist Luke as part of the Norell Piano Duo on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 4 p.m. in the Goshen College Music Center’s Rieth Recital Hall.</p>
<p>The Norell Piano Duo will present a program of works for solo piano and piano four hands by Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Dvorak and Schubert. Mary Rose is a native of Goshen, beginning her piano studies in the Goshen College Piano Preparatory Program under retired professor of piano Marvin Blickenstaff.</p>
<p>Tickets cost $7 adults, $5 seniors/students, and are available at the door one hour before the concert. Goshen College faculty/staff/students are free with valid ID.</p>
<p>Mary Rose has developed a vibrant performance career at home and abroad, concertizing in Ravinia’s Bennett Gordon Hall and Chicago’s Cindy Pritzker Auditorium, as well as in England, Austria, Italy and Lithuania. Active as a concerto soloist, Dr. Norell has played with numerous orchestras, including the Northwestern Summer Orchestra, the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic, and the Elkhart County Symphony. As a collaborative artist, she performs regularly with her husband as the Norell Piano Duo and performs often with vocalists and other instrumentalists.</p>
<p>Mary Rose studied for 11 years with Marvin Blickenstaff, and worked with David Gross, Kathryn Sherer and Christine Thorgersen during Blickenstaff&#8217;s sabbaticals. While studying with Emile Naoumoff at Indiana University, she received her B.M. in Piano Performance “With Distinction” with a French minor, and her M.M. with an emphasis in German. She recently completed her doctorate in piano performance with James Giles at Northwestern University, graduating as a member of Pi Kappa Lambda. Besides performing, Mary Rose teaches piano, theory and pedagogy, having taught for the Indiana University Young Pianists Program and the IU Pedagogy department, as well as for the Northwestern College Piano Institute in Minnesota.</p>
<p>A native of rural Minnesota, Luke has concertized internationally as soloist and chamber musician. He recently performed as a semi-finalist at the 2012 Panama International Piano Competition, and presented a lecture recital on Bach’s French Overture at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Luke has appeared in collaboration with the Artaria String Quartet, and has performed at the Universität für Musik in Vienna as part of the Webster University Chamber Music Vienna festival. His prizes include first place awards in the Schubert Club Competition, the Northwestern College Concerto Competition and the Third Biennial Lee Piano Competition.</p>
<p>An active teacher, Luke maintains a successful private studio and serves on the faculty of the Young Artist World Piano Festival and the Northwestern College Piano Institute. He held an associate instructor position at Indiana University-Bloomington for five years, teaching both private lessons and group piano classes.</p>
<p>Norell is completing his doctorate with André Watts at Indiana University, after previously obtaining his M.M. degree from Indiana University-Bloomington, and his B.M. degree from Northwestern College (St. Paul). His principal teachers include André De Groote, Paul Wirth, Richard Lange, Daniel Rieppel and Myrna Eppeland. Luke has also studied early keyboard instruments with Elisabeth Wright and Julieta Alvarado.</p>

<p>Indiana Wesleyan University professor and pianist Phoenix Park-Kim will present a solo piano recital in Goshen College Music Center’s Rieth Recital Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m.</p>
<p>Park-Kim’s program will include arrangements of J.S. Bach by Wilhelm Kempf and Egon Petri, as well as works by Haydn, Rachmaninoff, Gershwin, Verdi/Liszt and Frederic Rzewski.</p>
<p>Tickets cost $7 adults, $5 seniors/students, and are available at the door beginning one hour before the concert. Goshen College faculty, students and staff are free with ID.</p>
<p>Associate Professor of Piano at Indiana Wesleyan University Park-Kim is an active and accomplished soloist and avid chamber musician. Her performances have taken her throughout the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, Italy, Switzerland and Russia. She has won top prizes at national and international competitions including first place at the Miami Concerto Competition, Jefferson City Concerto Competition and Kansas City Philharmonic Concerto Competition, and was a finalist at the Liszt-Garrison International Piano Competition.</p>
<p>Born in Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Park-Kim began playing the piano at the age of five and gave her first public performance at age seven. She graduated from Yonsei University in Seoul, with a B.M. in piano performance and a B.A. in English Language and Literature. She completed her graduate work at Miami University (M.M.) and at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, Conservatory of Music (D.M.A.) under the tutelage of renowned Dr. Robert Weirich and served as his teaching assistant. She is dedicated to bringing music to the under-served public as well as providing more exposure to musical compositions that are less known. In this endeavor, she was awarded the Lilly research grant and was a featured performer on Live From FM 91 on WGTE. She is currently a member of Duo Dolce, Soprani Compagni and the IWU Faculty Piano Trio. Her recent performances this season include a recital at the Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall as a part of the Distinguished Concerts Artist Series.</p>
