<p style="padding-left: 60px;">Any student who has taken an art class during the past year is eligible to submit work to be selected for this exhibit. Awards and a raffle drawing will take place at 3:30 p.m.</p>
<p><strong>5               </strong>4 p.m., <strong>Community School of the Arts Showcase Concert,</strong> Music Center’s Sauder Concert hall</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;">Two Community School of the Arts (CSA) children’s choirs will perform as part of the spring CSA Showcase Concert. Performing are Rejoice Children’s Choir (grades 3-5), directed by Kristin Kauffman, and Shout for Joy Children’s Choir (grades 6-8), directed by Sandy Hill.<br />
Tickets: $7 adults, $5 senior/students, available at the door one hour before the concert. GC students/faculty/staff free with ID.</p>
<p><strong>6              </strong>9:40 a.m., <strong>Convocation: “Breaking Down Barriers: The Journeys of the Apostle Paul,”</strong> College Church-Chapel</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;">This 30-minute documentary was filmed and produced by Goshen College students in conjunction with FiveCore Media, and takes viewers through the journey of Apostle Paul as he broke down barriers to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Hear about student experiences during the filming in May 2012.</p>
<p><strong>19</strong>             7 p.m., <strong>Youth Honors Orchestra Concert</strong>, Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall<strong></strong></p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;">The Elkhart County Youth Honors Symphony Orchestra (grades 9-12), conducted by Goshen College Assistant Professor of Music Christopher Fashun; and the Concert Orchestra (grades 7-9), conducted by Katelyn Truscello, will perform their spring concert. Tickets are $7 adults, $5 seniors/students. Goshen College faculty/staff/students are free with valid ID. Tickets available at the door one hour before the concert</p>
<p><strong>JUNE</strong></p>
<p><strong>2              African Art Exhibit opens,</strong> Music Center’s Hershberger Art Gallery</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;">Keith and Ann Graber Miller, owners of Found Gallery, will display works that will consist of parts of Found&#8217;s African Collection, which includes mostly West African masks, bronzes, beaded sashes, indigenous mud cloths, Kuba cloths and Kente fabrics, and wooden sculptures. The pieces are mostly from the 1930s through the 1980s, with some made for tribal use and some for trade.<br />
Reception: Sunday, Sept. 22, 2-3:30 p.m. The exhibit will end on Sept. 22.</p>
<p>Goshen College’s Administration Building, Church-Chapel, Good Library, Music Center, Newcomer Center and Umble Center are accessible to people using wheelchairs and others with physical limitations.</p>

<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Known across the world for her powerful voice, Lea Salonga is a Tony Award winning singer and actress, most recognized for her roles as Kim in Miss Saigon, as Eponine in Les Misérables and as the singing voice of two official Disney princesses: Jasmine in Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan. The New York Times describes her voice as “a shiny all-purpose instrument that confidently establishes its dominion over whatever musical setting surrounds it.” The 2013-14 Performing Arts Series lineup will also be announced at this concert.<br />

Members of the Goshen College music faculty will present a varied recital of musical works in Rieth Recital Hall. Performers will include Kevin Vaughn, organ; Kathryn Schmidt, piano; Beverly Lapp, piano; Jennifer Muñiz and Jorge Muñiz, piano; Chris French, clarinet; Roger Lewis, tuba; and Christine Larson Seitz, piano. The program will feature works by J.S. Bach, J. Ed. Barat, Claude Debussy, Jorge Muñiz, and current GC senior music composition student Levi Smucker.<br />

The addresses are judged on originality, the integration of topic and a peace position and general standards of delivery. Participants compete for cash prizes and the top winner may enter the U.S./Canada Mennonite Central Committee-sponsored C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest.</p>

<p>Katelyn Emerson, an organ student at Oberlin (Ohio) Conservatory and an American Guild of Organists “Rising Star,” will perform works by J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Buxtehude, Sweelinck, Brahms, Mendelssohn and more.</p>

<p>President Emeritus Dr. Victor Stoltzfus and Marie Stoltzfus will relate stories from their individual lives and their 57 years of married life that reflect life-long explorations of the meanings of faith, family and service.</p>
<p><strong>11</strong>            7:30 p.m., <strong>Umble Master Class: “Hope is a Four Letter Word</strong>,<strong>”</strong> <strong>by Carl McIntyre</strong>, Umble Center</p>
<p>Carl McIntyre is a seasoned actor who acquired the communication disorder aphasia after experiencing a massive stroke at age 44. His hour-long master class will begin with showing the 2010 short film, “Aphasia.” The film, in which McIntyre stars, recounts his experience during the stroke, his recovery and his struggle to communicate.</p>

<p>An all-star ensemble of renowned singers from across the United States, Seraphic Fire was founded in 2002 by Artistic Director Patrick Dupré Quigley, and has since garnered critical acclaim, including two Grammy nominations in 2011. The chamber choir has gained a reputation for dynamic, cutting edge performances and a broad repertoire, ranging from classical to contemporary and sacred to secular choral works.</p>

From the Mennonite Historical Library, a variety of quilts from Mennonite, Amish, Hutterite and Native American communities that have been recently acquired or never before exhibited are on display. This includes recent and antique Indiana and Pennsylvania Amish quilts, including diamond-in-the-square; commemorative quilts; friendship quilts; and other patchwork and applied quilts.</p>

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Women’s Caucus for Art, The Indiana Women’s Caucus for Art exhibit honors and commemorates four decades of arts advocacy. From its beginnings in 1972, the mission of the Women’s Caucus for Art has been to expand opportunities and recognition for women in the arts. Today, the IWCA continues to educate about the contributions of women in art and support women artists in our community.  The exhibit is up until Sept. 16 when a reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.</p>

Piano Workshop and Academy for Teachers and Students</strong>, Music Center<br />
The Piano Workshop and Academy is designed to serve the professional needs of piano teachers working at all levels and in a variety of settings. A concurrent academy for piano students ages 13-18 creates a dynamic atmosphere in which teachers and students learn together and from each other.</p>
<p>Guest clinicians include Jody Graves from Eastern Washington University; Nicholas Roth from Drake University; Jorge Muñiz, composer of a duet commissioned for the final evening concert, as well as Goshen College professors Matthew Hill and Beverly Lapp.</p>

Goshen College Soccer Camps</strong>, Goshen College Soccer Fields<br />
This fun-filled soccer experience will give players all the tools they need to become better as they are trained in proper soccer technique. The camps will be directed by Thavisak (Tavi) Mounsithiraj, head coach of the Goshen College men’s soccer team, 2005 MCC Coach of the Year and 2006 NAIA Regional Coach of the Year.</p>
<p>Kindergarten Kickers, ages 5-6 years old (cost $65), will meet 10-11:15 a.m. beginning Tuesday, June 19.</p>
<p>Students in grades 1-8 (cost $175) will begin on Tuesday, June 19, at 1 p.m. On the following days they will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.</p>

In the morning the group will visit the Frank Lloyd Wright House and Studio in Oak Park to enjoy his amazing architectural style. The group will return to Michigan Avenue to visit the Chicago Cultural Center housed in the beautiful 1897 Library, with its marbled and mosaic interiors and the world&#8217;s largest art glass dome by Tiffany. In the late afternoon the group will have a docent-led tour of the highlights of the Chicago Art Institute, including a visit to the recent addition of the Modern Art Wing. Price: $80. 7 p.m., <strong>Saloma Miller Furlong: My Journey from the Amish</strong>, Newcomer Center 19<br />
Saloma Miller Furlong will give a presentation titled “Two Lives in One: Inside and Outside the Amish.” Miller Furlong was born and raised in an Amish community in Ohio. A 2007 graduate of Smith College, she is the author of <em>Why I Left the Amish: A Memoir</em> (Michigan State University Press, 2011) in which she recalls her experiences as a child growing up within the Amish community and how, over time, she came to leave it. Miller Furlong will read from her memoir and open up for a question and answer session on her experiences. Her book will be available for purchase and signing. Sponsored by the English and History Departments and the Mennonite Historical Society.</p>

</strong>This special convocation will launch Homecoming Weekend. Two alumni award recipients will speak:  Kelli Holsopple ’99, this year’s recipient of the Decade of Servant Leadership award, and the wife of Ahmed Haile ’79, who receives a Culture for Service award posthumously, after his death in April.</p>
<p>A reception for all of the award recipients will follow in the Church Fellowship Hall at 10:45 a.m.<br />
The 2011 award recipients include Culture for Service Award: Ahmed A. Haile ’79 (Ahmed died in April 2011 and his wife Martha will accept the award in his place), Arthur A. DeFehr ’65, Vance Y. Singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter has sold more than 13 million records and won five Grammy awards to date. Her unique hybrid of country, folk and pop ranges from humorous country-rock to slow, introspective ballads about social issues. The New York Times called her recent performance in Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series a “spellbinding concert” performed “in the low, steady voice of someone confiding her thoughts in a journal.”<br />

1 p.m., <strong>Afternoon Sabbatical: “The Revitalization of Goshen Downtown,”</strong> Dave Pottinger and Faye Peterson with Jeremy and Maija Stutsman, Sauder Concert Hall, Music Center<br />
The aesthetics of downtown Goshen has been a passion of Dave Pottinger, Faye Peterson and their daughter Maija and son-in-law Jeremy Stutsman for many years as they purchased and renovated many of the buildings in the center of town, birthed businesses, encouraged artist organization and recently led the streetscape implementation. The family will share the vision that has motivated them and the steps in their journey to make Goshen a beautiful and ‘go to’ place.</p>

8 p.m., <strong>Taizé worship service</strong>, Newcomer Center Room 19<br />
Taizé services are focused on singing, hearing Scripture, silence and prayer. They are more contemplative in nature and are a wonderful way to step out of the busyness of school and seek to centre yourself in God.</p>

7:30 p.m., <strong>Performing Arts Series: Carolina Chocolate Drops</strong>, Sauder Concert Hall, Music Center<strong><br />
</strong>The Carolina Chocolate Drops are the newest and youngest players in a long lineage of Black String Bands and also in the newest class of Grammy winners, having just won for their album Genuine Negro Jig in the Traditional Folk Album. Band members add vocals to their banjo playing and fiddling, along with ceramic jugs, bones, quills and kazoos as their new-time vibe rockets roots music to the stage.<strong><br />
