Community prayer breakfast to kick off Martin Luther King Day
Jan. 15
GOSHEN, Ind. — A day of prayer and remembrance of Martin
Luther King Jr. will begin with a 7:30 a.m. community breakfast
Jan. 15 at Goshen College.
The seventh annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Prayer
Breakfast at Goshen College’s Church-Chapel Fellowship Hall
will feature the professional group Asante Children’s Theatre
(ACT) of Indianapolis. Members are committed to preserving the
tradition of African and African-American performing arts.
Instructors and mentors with ACT use the basic genres of performing
arts to develop the life skills of young people ages 12 to 21. The
goal of ACT is to be the primary community-based African-American
performing arts program for youth in Indiana. In keeping with the
theme of “taking community theater back to the
community,” ACT leads as the choice organization for young
talent in the areas of theater arts and stage.
Goshen College President James E. Brenneman will welcome
participants to the breakfast and the Goshen College Martin Luther
King Jr. Study Day. Goshen College’s Voices-n-Harmony Gospel
Choir, under the direction of Patrice Penny-Henderson, will offer
musical selections during the worship program and local pastors
will offer prayers.
Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and the breakfast buffet begins
at 7:30 a.m. Advance registration is required; tickets for the
breakfast are $15 per person or $120 for a table of eight and must
be reserved by Jan. 12. For more information about the prayer
breakfast, or to reserve a seat or table, call the Goshen College
Welcome Center at (574) 535-7566.
Sponsors of the breakfast are Goshen College, Goshen Health
