Greg Stahly, a Goshen native, is a 2001 graduate of Goshen College; Liz Nofziger, a native of Indiana, is a 1996 graduate of Goshen College. They are both recent recipients of master’s of fine arts degrees. This exhibit runs from Jan. 8 to Feb. 15.

B.H. Fairchild is an award-winning poet whose collections include “The Arrival of the Future,” “Local Knowledge” and “The Art of the Lathe,” a finalist for the National Book Award.

Goshen College graduate Krysta Hawkley, currently a graduate student in piano pedagogy at Westminster Choir College, returns to GC to perform a piano recital in Rieth Recital Hall. She will perform works by Schubert, Bach, Liszt and Stravinsky.

History, The Library
Gallery
In celebration of Black History Month, this exhibit includes sculptures, drawings and paintings by local artists, including Terry Waddell (South Bend, Ind.) and Jake Webster (Elkhart, Ind.), depicting Black life in the past, present and future.
This exhibit runs from Jan. 15 to Feb. 24. A jazz and poetry reception will be held for Black History Month on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m.

10 a.m., Convocation: Breaking Ice performance and discussion, Church-Chapel
Breaking Ice will offer a stimulating and entertaining performance program that gets to the heart of difficult issues. Each performance is created for the specific circumstances of its presentation, an original theater piece using poetry, music, movement and structured improvisation to bring tough issues to life. The facilitated discussion that follows provides the forum for participants to explore the issue together. Breaking Ice is a program of Pillsbury House Theatre and a strategy of Pillsbury United Communities.

A celebration of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s 250th birthday, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra will collaborate with Goshen College’s Chamber Choir and the Philharmonic Chorus in “Requium.”

7:30 p.m., Roy H. Umble Master Class lecture:
David Dye, host of World Café®, Umble Center
David Dye,
host of World Café®, will present the 2006 Umble Master
Class lecture. With Dye signing on as host and producer in 1991, the
nationally-syndicated World Café® has emerged in the past
decade as the most-listened-to contemporary public radio music program
in the country. Every week Dye brings out the best in interviews with
internationally known artists like Yo Yo Ma and Joni Mitchell. He
introduces a half million listeners a week to newcomers like Norah
Jones and Keb Mo on over 150 public radio stations. Goshen College’s
radio station, The Globe 91.1 FM, airs the show on weekdays from 4
to 6 p.m.

Band, Sauder Concert Hall
Goshen’s Kent Dutchersmith, a.k.a. “Kentucky T.,”
and the Rubber Band will present a special children’s concert,
sponsored by the Community School of the Arts. Cost: $3, $1, at the
door.

p.m., International Student Club Coffee House, Church-Chapel Fellowship Hall/Umble Center
The annual event is educational and fun for the whole family, with
a delicious meal prepared by international students at 5 p.m. in the
Church-Chapel Fellowship Hall and a colorful variety show at 7 p.m.
in Umble Center. Proceeds support the club and needy international
students’ education. Cost: TBA.
