GOSHEN, Ind. – Goshen College ushers in the Christmas season with a celebrative festival of music involving singers, instrumentalists and the audience in sharing the treasured music of Christmas. The Goshen College Music Department host their second annual Christmas concert titled “A Festival of Carols” on Dec. 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. and on Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. in the Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall, decked from balcony to stage with garland and trees.

This delightful program will feature Christmas favorites performed by the Goshen College Chamber Choir, Chorale, Men’s Chorus, Women’s World Music Choir and Orchestra. Also performing will be Goshen College music department professors, students, and Shout for Joy, a Community School of the Arts children’s choir. As always, the concert will also include ample opportunity for audience participation and singing.

Audiences can anticipate Charles Ives’ “A Christmas Carol,” “The Christ-Child’s Lullaby” arranged by Wayland Rogers, three Ukrainian Carols, the Austrian carol “Still, Still, Still,” Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Greensleeves” and much more

Associate Professor of Music Jim Heiks said, “In ‘A Festival of Carols’ we seek to celebrate the common bond of good will, peace and joy shared by all the people of our community, as it is expressed in the biblical reading from First John at the end of the concert: ‘Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought to also love one another.’ This eloquent passage sums up the whole, wondrous and glorious story.”

The Dec. 3 festival performance will feature a 6 p.m. pre-concert by the Goshen College Honors Wind Symphony, directed by Associate Professor of Music John Graulty. The ensemble combines outstanding pre-college players selected by audition with Goshen College students.

Tickets for the concerts are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and students. They are available at the Goshen College Welcome Center by calling (574) 535-7566.
