Two Afghani business women to speak on sustainability projects
Lecture: "Finding sustainable markets for entrepreneurs in
Afghanistan: The case for using business principles in poverty
reduction and sustainable development"

GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen College Business Department is hosting two women, Catherine Sobrevega and Mahbooba Waizi, from Afghanistan to speak on "Finding sustainable markets for entrepreneurs in Afghanistan: The case for using business principles in poverty reduction and sustainable development" on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at Eighth Street Mennonite Church in Goshen.
Sobrevega is the Afghanistan country manager for Mennonite Economic Development Association and is responsible for the project, "Through the Garden Gates: Strategies for Integrating Women into Sustainable Markets." The project helps women improve the quality and yield of their home-based gardens and build links to sustainable markets in order to increase family incomes. There are more than 1,500 women participating in the project. Earlier this year, the project was a finalist at the 16th annual Canadian Awards for International Cooperation in the Centre for Intercultural Learning Award for Gender Equity Achievement.
Waizi is the CEO of the Afghan Women's Business Federation and is joining Sobrevega to speak about emerging women entrepreneurs in Afghanistan.
The event is free and open to the public.
