The King’s Singers give a bonus show for the Performing Arts Series on Nov. 17

GOSHEN, Ind. –The world-renowned British a cappella group, the King’s Singers, will perform at Goshen College in Sauder Concert Hall on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. for a bonus show of the Performing Arts Series. As an add-on show, not all season ticket holders have tickets for this concert.

The group’s rich and diverse repertoire covers a range of musical genres from madrigals and Renaissance to pop and lighthearted pieces to religious music, including more than 200 commissioned pieces. For almost 40 years, The King’s Singers have continued to prove that vocal music can be enjoyable.

The King’s Singers group was formed in 1968 by six choral scholars from King’s College in Cambridge, England. Since then, 19 members have come and gone. The current group, still based in England, includes David Hurley and Robin Tyson, countertenors; Paul Phoenix, tenor; Philip Lawson and Christopher Gabbitas, baritones; and Stephen Connolly, bass.

An addition to an extensive performance schedule, the group also regularly offers master classes at the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, and since 1996 they have been Prince Consort Ensemble-in-Residence at the Royal College of Music.

The ensemble has recorded more than 70 albums with various labels, and several books of their music arrangements have been compiled. The group also recently released their first concert DVD, titled “From Byrd to the Beatles.”

Of the acclaimed group, “They make splendid use of vocal arrangements to tap into current cultural idiom. Fusing forms, timbres and styles, they turn education and entertainment into art and back again,’” said “The New York Times.” “The London Times” says the King’s Singers are “still unmatched for their musicality and sheer ability to entertain.”
