GOSHEN, Ind. – Well-known for their version of the song "La Bamba" that was released as part of the 1987 movie's soundtrack, the three-time Grammy award winning band Los Lobos will perform at Goshen College as part of the Performing Arts Series on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Center's Sauder Concert Hall.

Los Lobos is an American Chicano rock band whose developing styles are influenced by traditional Spanish and Mexican music, rock and roll, R&B, folk and country. Rolling Stones confirms its significance: "With the exception of U2, no other band has stayed on top of its game as long as Los Lobos."

For the last 36 years, Los Lobos has focused on challenging audiences with conscience-raising songs and thought-provoking lyrics instead of hitting hard on politics and hidden agendas. The band toured extensively throughout the world in the late 1980s and early 1990s, opening for acts such as Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead. And in October, the band joined Marc Anthony, Gloria Estafan, George Lopez and others for National Hispanic Heritage Month with a celebration concert at the White House, performing for the First Family and many others.

In late October, the band also released their first new album in three years, "Los Lobos Goes Disney," featuring covers of 13 Disney classics. "We're really happy about it," sax player Steve Berlin said about the new album. "The kids record doesn't sound like a kids record. It just sounds like Los Lobos playing funky old songs."

Los Lobos includes David Hidalgo, vocals, guitar and accordion; Conrad Lozano, bass; Louie Perez, guitar; Cesar Rosas, guitar and vocals; Cougar Estrada, percussion; and Steve Berlin, saxophone,. They have been responsible for supplying this generation with a soundtrack to the Mexican American life journey.
