8 a.m., Goshen On-Site Visitation Day

High school students and parents will learn more about Goshen College by meeting with professors, coaches, current students and alumni. There will be opportunities to tour campus and new facilities, learn about the college’s academic excellence, discover financial aid opportunities, Goshen’s top-ranked study abroad program, student life and a Christ-centered college community. Special sessions for parents are offered.

8 p.m., Fall Mainstage Play – “Much Ado About Nothing” by William Shakespeare, Umble Center

This is a playful adaptation of a popular Shakespearian comedy with love, betrayal, silliness and all other sorts of intrigue, directed by Goshen College graduate and Goshen native Michelle Milne.

            Tickets: $8 general/$5 students and seniors.

This is a playful adaptation of a popular Shakespearian comedy with love, betrayal, silliness and all other sorts of intrigue, directed by Goshen College graduate and Goshen native Michelle Milne.

            Tickets: $8 general/$5 students and seniors.

3 and 7 p.m., Goshen High School and Goshen College Choir Concert, Sauder Concert Hall

Members of the Goshen High School and Goshen College Choirs will perform in a joint concert with the Goshen College Orchestra.

            Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, available at the door. GC students admitted free with ID.

6:30 p.m., “Dinner for Lucy” – an international fundraiser dinner, Church-Chapel Fellowship Hall

Hosted by the fall Communicating Across Cultures class taught by Associate Professor of Communication Pat McFarlane, this international dinner is a fundraiser for Lucy Apiyo Oticha from Kenya who will be studying at Kima International School of Theology in western Kenya. The guest speaker will be Rhoda Keener, executive director of Mennonite Women USA. The International Women’s Choir will be singing as part of the program. This project is connected with Mennonite Women USA.

1 p.m., Afternoon Sabbatical – Community School of the Arts, Sauder Concert Hall

Students and teachers are showcased in this lively demonstration of Community School of the Arts activities. More than 300 students of all ages, abilities and economic circumstances come to the Music Center weekly for CSA music lessons, classes and choirs. Building on the college’s long tradition of preparatory programs in piano and violin, other initiatives were added after the completion of the Music Center, and now include instruction on many instruments, plus Kindermusik and three choirs.

 

7 p.m., Lecture by Jaime Prieto, “The Participation of Women in the History of Mennonites in Latin America,” Newcomer Center Room 17

Jaime Prieto, professor of history and dean of the Biblical University of Latin America, Costa Rica, is the author of the Latin America volume of the Global Mennonite Historiography project, scheduled for publication in 2006. The lecture is sponsored by the Mennonite Historical Society and the Mennonite Historical Library.

Reflective worship service with songs, Scriptures, silence, prayers and candle light.

Goshen College Family Weekend

Parents and family members of Goshen College students are warmly invited to attend Family Weekend which offers the unique opportunity to experience Goshen College with their students, meet their friends and experience this Christ-centered community of faith and learning. During the weekend families can cheer on the GC men’s basketball team, enjoy the Fall Mainstage “Much Ado About Nothing,” introduce a younger sibling to residence hall life, visit with other parents at the Parents Brunch/Seminar, explore the lively tunes of a Lavender Jazz Concert, get your questions answered at the SST Parents Breakfast and be inspired at Morning Song, a student-led worship service.

7 p.m., Lavender Jazz: “Face the Glory!”
Sauder Concert Hall

Lavender Jazz, Goshen College’s Big Band, will present their fall concert “Face the Glory!” with guest trumpeter Danny Barber. Goshen High School’s Crimson Jazz I and Crimson Jazz II will join in on the concert, marking the first Crimson Jazz concert appearance on the Goshen College campus and represents the second time the jazz ensembles from Goshen College and Goshen High School have performed together.

            Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, available at the door. GC students admitted free with ID.

The Community School of the Arts Children’s Choirs – “Rejoice!” directed by Dana Lehman and “Shout for Joy!” directed by Diane Schrock Hertzler – present their fall concert.

10 a.m., Convocation: “Energy Conservation at GC Goes High Tech” – by Utilities Manager Glenn Gilbert,
Church-Chapel

Glenn Gilbert is the utilities manager at Goshen College and will be talking about his work, what the campus can continue to do to help conserve energy and why an energy audit team last February praised the college as the most energy-efficient campus of the 200 they had visited.

 

7:30 p.m., Voices-n-Harmony Fall Concert, Rieth Recital Hall

Voices-n-Harmony, Goshen College’s gospel choir directed by Patrice Penny Henderson, presents its fall concert.

            Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, available at the door. GC students admitted free with ID.

7:30 p.m., Concert of Dan Gardner and Anna Montgomery, with Goshen High School Crimsonaires,
Sauder Concert Hall

Goshen College alumnus Anna Montgomery, a Los Angeles-based vocalist, and Goshen native Dan Gardner, 2003 “Today Show” vocal contest winner, will present benefit concerts, along with the Goshen High School Crimsonaires. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Goshen High School Crimsonaires Scholarship Fund and the Goshen College Community School of the Arts Acorn Scholarship Program.

            Tickets are $25, $20 and $10, reserved seating.

9 a.m., Goshen College Brass Day,
Music Center

Brass Day is a half-day workshop and performance opportunity for area high school brass students to rehearse and perform with Goshen College’s new brass faculty from the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Participate in master classes and workshops, culminating in a short recital in Rieth Recital Hall. This event is open to all area high school brass players by registration.

7:30 p.m., Performing Arts Series – Colm Wilkinson, Sauder Concert Hall

To lovers of musical theater around the world, Colm Wilkinson definitely needs no introduction. Best known as the original star of Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables” and creator of the role of Phantom in “Phantom of the Opera,” Colm has mesmerized audiences in London, New York and beyond. In this appearance, Colm will perform his stage show “Some of My Best Friends Are Songs,” which has been bringing audiences to its feet around the world.

            Choral Terrace tickets still available, $18.

8 p.m., Carol Ann Weaver “Singing Words” Concert, Rieth Recital Hall

Carol Ann Weaver on piano and vocalist Rebecca Campbell will perform a concert of Mennonite poetry set to music. This event is sponsored by the English Department.
