7 p.m., Peter Fallon poetry reading, Newcomer Center 19
Peter Fallon grew up on his uncle's farm near Kells in County Meath, Ireland. He is an Honours Graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, where, in 1994, he was Writer Fellow in the English Department. At the age of 18 he founded The Gallery Press which has published more than 400 books of poems and plays by the country's finest established and emerging authors and which is recognized as Ireland’s pre-eminent literary publishing house. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the reception afterwards.

8 p.m., Fall Mainstage: “A View from the Bridge,” Umble Center
Set in the 1950s Brooklyn, Eddie Carbone, an Italian American Longshoreman, lives in Red Hook, Brooklyn, with his wife Beatrice and his niece Catherine. He is a pillar in the community who is devoted to and protective of his family. After his wife's cousins Marco and Rodolpho arrive in America illegally, after escaping the poverty of Sicily, Eddie's troubles begin. As Rodolpho and Catherine fall in love, Eddie's love for his niece is no longer touching, yet increasingly terrifying. As Eddie's love and loyalty for his niece is challenged by the cousins, Eddie works to retain his authority and defend his reputation. Even a visit to Alfieri, the community's lawyer, is ineffective in resolving the brewing conflict. When Arthur Miller wrote the play, he emphasized the power of the community. Classified as a modern tragedy, "A View from the Bridge" focuses on the world of the common man and his strengths and imperfections.

1 p.m., Afternoon Sabbatical: From Laos to Goshen, Tavi Mounsithiraj, Sauder Concert Hall
The Mounsithiraj family fled from Laos in 1978 when the Communists took over the country. After a year in a refugee campus, the family eventually settled in Goshen, Ind. Tavi will share the story of leaving one homeland as a 13-year-old boy and adjusting to life in another culture where today he is the head coach of Goshen College soccer, leading it to national recognition.

7:30 p.m., Performing Arts Series: Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and Anne-Marie McDermott, Sauder Concert Hall
One of the world’s pre-eminent concert violinists, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg combines brilliant technique with passionate emotion to produce consistently stunning performances. Called a “breathtakingly daring and original artist” by The Washington Post, she has performed as orchestral soloist and recitalist around the world, as well as being featured on “60 Minutes” and “The Tonight Show.” Her Sauder Concert Hall appearance will be with pianist Anne-Marie McDermott.
