Goshen College adult degree-completion programs grow with fall enrollment

GOSHEN, Ind. – Area working adults are continuing to see the value of returning to college to get or complete their degrees and fall enrollees in Goshen College’s two adult degree-completion programs are finding programs that meet their needs as adult students.

The most recent Organizational Leadership Program (OLP) cohort started on Sept. 10 with a large class of 21 students. This 18-month program attracted students from across Michiana, including the Indiana towns of Bremen, Warsaw, Topeka and Goshen, as well as Sturgis, Mich. The adult students are employed at large and small companies.

The OLP challenges individuals to grow as managers and to lead people, businesses and nonprofit groups more effectively. Students need approximately 60 transferable credits to apply for the Organizational Leadership Program. The program combines both theory and application; learners are able to understand what works and why. Classes begin at various times throughout the year, not just at the beginning of a semester.

The Fall 2007 BSN completion track cohort began on Sept. 17 with 12 students. This 19-month program draws registered nurses (RN) from hospitals in northern Indiana and Michigan to work at completing their bachelor’s of science degree in nursing (BSN), which includes clinical time as part of the course work.

The program is designed to affirm personal and professional strengths, and students will increase their leadership and management skills. The program promotes self-directed study and study guides are provided to maximize off-campus learning and in-class activities. The collaborative education process makes student experiences and insights a vital part of classroom activities.

From the convenient schedule to the supportive faculty and staff, the two programs of Goshen College’s Division of Adult and External Studies (DAES) are designed for adult students to succeed by recognizing the demands on time and the need for convenience. Both programs meet one evening per week for four hours, with no extra study sessions. All class sessions are on the same night of the week with the same group of students in the same location. There is one all-inclusive fee for the programs and no hidden costs, making it easy for adult students to budget for the 18-month program. And the programs qualify for financial aid, in addition to many employers assisting with the college tuition costs for employees.
