Goshen College Orchestra to present fall concert, "Viva Vivaldi!," Oct. 24

Cost: $7 adults, $5 seniors and students. GC students free with valid ID. Tickets available at the door prior to the concert.

GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen College orchestra, under the direction of new Associate Professor of Music Gregg Thaller, will perform its fall concert titled "Viva Vivaldi!" Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Sauder Concert Hall at the Goshen College Music Center.

The concert will feature numerous selections by Antonio Vivaldi, including from "The Four Seasons," with student instrumental soloists and faculty violinist Dr. Solomia Soroka. The program also will feature Beethoven's "Symphony No. 8" and Glinka's "Overture to Russlan und Ludmilla."

Thaller, the orchestra's new conductor, has been a full-time teacher of music in public and private high schools as well as state and private colleges such as Boston University, University of Cincinnati, Southwest Baptist University, Evangel University, East Stroudsburg University, McPherson College and Salem State College, where he served as chairperson of the music department. His degrees are in performance and music education from Boston University, the University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music and the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music. He has undergone additional orchestral-conducting study at Bard College, University of Iowa, University of South Carolina, Eastman School of Music and the Naples Philharmonic in Florida.

As a percussionist, Gregg is a member of the Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with groups such as the Springfield (Mo.) Symphony, the Wichita Grand Opera, the Eastern Connecticut Symphony, the Massachusetts Wind Orchestra, the U.S. Coast Guard Band, the Interlochen Faculty Brass Ensemble and a faculty jazz trio.

Concert tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and student. Goshen College students are admitted free of charge with a valid ID. Ticket will be available at the door prior to the concert.
