College faculty recital features tenor and soprano couple, Oct. 13

GOSHEN, Ind. – Assistant Professor of Music and tenor Scott Williamson will be joined by his wife, noted soprano Amy Cofield, and pianist Christine Larson Seitz in a Faculty Showcase Recital in Goshen College Music Center’s Rieth Recital Hall on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

 

In a program titled, “Isn’t it Romantic? Songs and Arias from the 19th Century,” music by Schumann, Mahler, Verdi, Gounod and others will be performed.

 

Scott Williamson is an associate professor of music at Goshen College with a one-year appointment. He conducts the Chorale and Men’s Chorus, in addition to teaching and supervising music education student teachers. Williamson received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from James Madison University and Westminster Choir College, and earned a doctorate of musical arts degree from the University of Maryland. He was the winner of the 2005 International Opera Singers Competition, held by the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York. Williamson has been an associate conductor and chorus master for Opera Roanoke since 1998, and was director of choral and vocal activities at Shepherd University from 1999 to 2002. Having served as associate director of choral and vocal activities at Washington & Lee University from 1996 to 1999, he returns there frequently as artist-in-residence. He has recently performed with the Tulsa Opera, Annapolis Chamber Orchestra, Opera Roanoke, St. Andrew’s Music Series in New York, Young Victorian Theatre and the Bard Music Festival. His upcoming performances are with the National Chorale, Saint Thomas Church in New York, Virginia Tech and the Masterworks Chorale.

 

Praised for her beautiful singing, wonderful artistry and beauty of interpretation, Amy Cofield Williamson has performed across the United States and in France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, England, Santo Domingo, Taiwan and Guam. A native of South Bend, Ind., Cofield Williamson returned in 2006, and is a member of the voice faculty at Goshen College and Penn High School. She has had operatic roles with the Knoxville Opera, Wildwood Opera, Lyric Opera of San Antonio, Teatro Lirico D’Europa, American Opera Theater in Taiwan and New York, Opera!Lenawee in Michigan, Fort Worth Opera and Houston Grand Opera. She also maintains a busy concert schedule as well. Recent engagements have been with Annapolis Chamber Orchestra and Chorale, the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society, the Elkhart Symphony, Carnegie Hall, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and Pro Cantus Lyric Opera in Texas.

 

Tickets for the recital are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. GC students receive free admission with ID. Tickets are available for purchase at the door.
