GOSHEN, Ind. – As part of the 10th year of Goshen College’s Performing Arts Series, the Brubeck Brothers will perform at Sauder Concert Hall on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m., a year after their father entertained a packed hall.
Daniel Brubeck, on drums, and Chris Brubeck, on bass and trombone, make up the Brubeck Brothers, sons of legendary jazz pianist, Dave Brubeck. They will team up with Taylor Eigsti, 22-year-old pianist, composer and two-time Grammy nominee.
The trio will also offer a free jazz master class for area middle school and high school students, as well as Goshen College students. It will be held in Sauder Concert Hall on Friday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. The trio will perform several pieces, interact with the students through a question and answer session facilitated by Sonny Carreño, director of Goshen College's Lavender Jazz, and hear several students perform a short jazz piece, offering suggestions for their jazz style and improvisation. Community students interested in attending the session should call Brian Wiebe, executive director of the Music Center, at (574) 535-7793.
The Brubeck Brothers and Eigsti have all received national attention. The Los Angeles Times said of Chris, “[He] has become one of the most capable electric bassists, delivering imaginative solos.” Eigsti, whose father graduated from Goshen College, began his piano career onstage as a prodigy at age eight and performed with Dave Brubeck at the age of 12.
The Brubeck Brothers and Eigsti enjoy a collaborative style described as “… jazz in its finest form: exciting, expertly played, full of life, supremely musical and energetic,” by Audiophile.
Dan and Chris continue their father Dave’s legacy in the jazz world, and along with the young rising star Eigsti, promise a dazzling and invigorating performance. They will be part of the lineup that was developed with input from past Performing Arts Series attendees in honor of the 10th anniversary.
Taylor Eigsti appeared in the 2001 Performing Arts Series. Chris Brubeck appeared in 1998. As part of the 10th anniversary celebration, concertgoers from previous years were able to vote for the performers who visited over the past 10 years that they most wanted to see again. All performers that make up this year’s lineup received votes.
Tickets for Choral Terrace seating, located behind the stage are on sale for $8. If any tickets are returned, those will go on sale at the Music Center box office at 6:30 p.m. the night of the concert; ticket costs would be $25, $20 and $10, depending on seat location.
