Homecoming Music Gala to feature college's choirs and orchestra

GOSHEN, Ind. – The 2010 Goshen College Homecoming Weekend Music Gala concert will feature performances by the college's choirs and orchestra for the first time in the 2010-11 academic year, and will include a piece conducted by special guest Vance George. The concert will take place in the Goshen College Music Center's Sauder Concert Hall on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Performing are the Goshen College Chorale, Chamber Choir, Men's Chorus, Women's World Music Choir, Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. This concert features the debut of new Assistant Professor of Music and conductor of the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras Christopher Fashun. The Symphony Orchestra and Choirs will combine for a performance of "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place" from Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, with special guest conductor Vance George, a 1955 Goshen College graduate and former conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus.

The choirs will perform works from a variety of cultures and in a number of languages. The orchestras will perform works by Brahms, Jean Sibelius and Argentinian composer Astor Piazzola.
