Homecoming Music Gala to feature alumna Rebecca Martin and GC ensembles

GOSHEN, Ind. – The 2008 Goshen College Homecoming Weekend Music Gala concert will include featured artist, alumna Rebecca Martin, mezzo-soprano, along with the first opportunity to hear the 2008-09 ensembles and new and returning faculty members. The concert will take place in the Goshen College Music Center's Sauder Concert Hall on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Martin will perform a rarely-performed concert aria, "Chi'io mi scordi de te?" (Recitative & Rondo), K. 505 by Wolfgang Mozart, with Professor of Music Matthew Hill and the Goshen College Orchestra. Assistant Professor of Music Solomia Soroka, violin, and Community School of the Arts Strings Program Director Rosalyn Troiano, viola, will also be performing.
The audience will also enjoy performances by the Goshen College Chamber Choir and Women's World Music Choir, directed by Professor of Music Debra Brubaker, the Goshen College Chorale and Men's Chorus, directed by Assistant Professor of Music Scott Hochstetler and the Goshen College Orchestra, directed by Associate Professor of Music Gregg Thaller.
Martin was born in Saigon, Vietnam. After graduating from Goshen College in 1988, she has performed in many roles, including in Santader, Spain, Hong Kong, Leipzig's Gewandhaus, Munich's Philharmonie am Gasteig, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Grant Park in Chicago and Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. She worked with the conductors Mariss Jansons, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marek Janowski, Riccardo Chailly and Ulf Schirmer, among others. In 2004, Martin began teaching singing at the Music University in Nuremberg, and continues to balance this with her many performances.
