Merry Lea to host nature photography workshop Oct. 6

WOLF LAKE, Ind. – What’s the difference between good nature photography and just snapping pictures? For those who want to find out, Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College will hold a one-day nature photography workshop on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Center’s Farmstead, located just south of Wolf Lake, Ind.

This hands-on workshop will mix fieldwork, evaluation of student photos and slide-illustrated lectures. Participants will spend several hours outdoors taking photos, both assigned and personal choice. The primary medium is digital photography, but film users are also welcome. Instructors Dave Miller and Paul McAfee will discuss composition and other elements of good nature photography. They will also look at management of digital images. If you’ve ever been disappointed with your record of a family vacation, this photography workshop can help.

The cost of this workshop is $40, and the registration deadline is Oct. 2. To register or for more information, call (260) 799-5869 or e-mail jenniferhs@goshen.edu.

Merry Lea will hold a related workshop in December titled Photoshop for Nature Photographers. Watch for details or add your name to a list of interested people using the contact information above.

Merry Lea is a 1,150-acre nature preserve owned and operated by Goshen College. It is located in central Noble County, just south of Wolf Lake. Merry Lea’s woodlands, wetlands and prairies provide an ideal setting for the nature photographer. Five miles of hiking trails are open to the public for hiking from dawn to dusk.
